Dr. Riddhi Dasgupta

Dr. Riddhi Dasgupta is a clinical endocrinologist with avid research interests in beta-cell replacement, insulin resistance, atypical forms of diabetes and diabetic foot. Having completed his speciality training in endocrinology and diabetes from the prestigious Christian Medical College, Vellore, Dr. Dasgupta has gained further clinical research expertise in diabetes and metabolism at the IMS-MRL (Cambridge, UK) under supervision of Prof. Steve O’ Raheilly and at the Translational and Clinical Research institute (Newcastle, UK) under Prof. James Shaw.

Low-BMI diabetes, and especially Type 3c Diabetes, have been a focal point of his research over the past decade. Utilizing state-of-the-art metabolic techniques like euglycemic pancreatic clamps, mixed meals and incretin IIGI tests, and combining them with cutting edge genetic profiling, Dr. Riddhi Dasgupta and his colleagues at Vellore have been able to elucidate previously unexplored mechanistic pathways of dysglycemia in severely low-BMI and pancreatic diabetes. Parallel to his research endeavours, Dr. Riddhi Dasgupta has taken a keen interest in clinical practice, which provides a unique window to observe the myriad presentations of endocrinopathies first-hand, as also opening up newer vistas of research expeditions. Throughout his professional career, Dr. Dasgupta considers himself fortunate enough to work as a teaching faculty; providing him an unparalleled opportunity to interact with and play a positive role in impacting the minds of future leaders of endocrinology and metabolism in India.
