Prof. Prosenjit Mondal
Prof. Prosenjit Mondal completed his PhD at the Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar. He was a postdoctoral associate at Johns Hopkins University and Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Before joining the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Berhampur (IISER Berhampur), Prof. Mondal served as an Associate Professor at IIT Mandi. Currently, he is working as a Professor and Dean of Academic Affairs at IISER Berhampur.
Prof. Mondal’s research efforts over the last fourteen years have focused on understanding the pathogenesis of diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. His work emphasizes the mechanisms of inter-organ communication in maintaining systemic homeostasis in the body. His team uses in vitro cell culture and in vivo animal models to explore the inter-organ crosstalk between the liver and peripheral organs contributing to the pathogenesis of diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
In addition, Prof. Mondal’s lab is engaged in interdisciplinary research at the interface of chemistry and biology, aiming to develop non-peptidic Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) Receptor agonists as potential anti-diabetic therapeutics.
