Dr. Chittaranjan Yajnik

Dr. Chittaranjan Yajnik is the Professor & Director of the Diabetes Unit at KEM Hospital and Research Centre, Pune, India. He also holds concurrent positions as an Adjunct Professor at IISER, Pune, and a Visiting Professor at several esteemed institutions, including Molecular Medicine, Exeter, UK, Danish Diabetes Academy, Denmark, and Western Sydney University, Australia. His research interests primarily focus on the high susceptibility of Indians to diabetes, intra-uterine programming of diabetes, and the role of Vitamin B12 and 1-C metabolism in diabetes.

Dr. Yajnik has authored over 300 publications and boasts an impressive h-index of 93. He ranks among the Top 0.5% in the Stanford University rankings for 2022-23-24. His contributions to diabetes research have been widely recognized, earning him several prestigious awards:

  • Hellmut Mehnert Award from the International Diabetes Federation (2009)
  • David Barker Medal from the International DOHaD Society (2011)
  • Outstanding Investigator Award from the World India Diabetes Foundation (2016)
