Professor Azad Khan
Professor Azad Khan is the Regional Chair of the International Diabetes Federation's Southeast Asia region, the President of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS), and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bangladesh University of Health Sciences.
As President of BADAS, he has led programs to implement direct diabetes treatment services and has been a strong advocate for non-communicable diseases to be a core part of Bangladesh’s health system. He is also the chief organizer of the Primary Prevention Program of Diabetes in Bangladesh.
The Lancet published his profile as the prime mover for Noncommunicable Diseases Prevention in Bangladesh (Link). In recognition of his outstanding contribution to healthcare for diabetic patients, Prof. Khan received the IDF Global Award in 2015.
He is also the recipient of several honors, including the Honoree Bangladesh Medical Association of North America, the Health Award for Extraordinary Contribution in Diabetes, and the Independence Day Award 2018 from the Government of Bangladesh for Social Services, which is the highest National Award in Bangladesh. He has been appointed as the National Professor by the Government of Bangladesh since May 2021.
