Professor Alvin Powers

Prof. Alvin Powers is the Joe C. Davis Chair in Biomedical Science, Medicine, and Molecular Physiology and Biophysics Professor at Vanderbilt University, where he also served as the Director of the Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology.

He has received numerous accolades, including the David Rumbough Award for Scientific Excellence from the JDRF, the Banting Medal for Leadership and Service from the ADA, the Naomi Berrie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Diabetes Research from Columbia University, and the Outstanding Educator Award from the Endocrine Society. Additionally, he has been listed by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd as one of "America's Top Doctors."

In 2017, he served as President of Medicine & Science of the American Diabetes Association.

His research in type 1 and type 2 diabetes focuses on pancreatic islet biology, development, and function.
