Professor Sylvia Kehlenbrink
Sylvia Kehlenbrink is the Director of Global Endocrinology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and teaches at Harvard Medical School. She leads the NCDs in Conflict Program at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, focusing on diabetes care and insulin access in low- and middle-income areas.
In 2019, Sylvia organized the first Symposium on Diabetes in Humanitarian Crises at Harvard, which resulted in the Boston Declaration and the formation of the International Alliance for Diabetes Action (IADA), where she serves as Executive Director.
Sylvia was instrumental in establishing the UNITED research consortium and conducted the first inter-agency study on diabetes care in humanitarian settings. She is a co-investigator of the HumAn-1 trial and collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) on type 1 diabetes guidelines.
