Professor David Phillips

Professor David Phillips is an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Southampton, UK, and an Honorary Consultant Physician in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust.

He has a background as an academic physician specializing in endocrinology, with a specific focus on the epidemiological aspects of endocrine disorders. Prior to retirement, he led a Medical Research Council-funded research group on the developmental origins of type 2 diabetes, the metabolic syndrome, and related conditions.

Prof. Phillips is one of the founding members of THENA (THET Ethiopia NCD Alliance), an international collaboration of university and clinical staff working to address the NCD needs of underserved populations, such as the rural population of Ethiopia.

His current research interests encompass epidemiology, clinical studies, the management of NCDs in resource-poor countries, and health service/operational research to improve healthcare access for NCDs.
