Professor Silver Bahendeka
Prof. Silver Bahendeka is a professor of Medicine and Endocrinology at Mother Kevin Post Graduate Medical School, Uganda Martyrs University, Kampala, Uganda. He is also a Senior Consultant Physician for Diabetes and Endocrinology at St Francis Hospital, Nsambya in Kampala, Uganda, where he brought Novo Nordisk’s program, Changing Diabetes in Children.
He is the current Chair of the East African Diabetes Study Group (EADSG) and an Advisor to the Ugandan government on Non-Communicable Diseases, specifically diabetes.
His research interests include Primary Health Care (PHC) and diabetes mellitus in low- and middle-income countries, prevention of cardiovascular disease, obesity, and digital health. One of his impactful projects is the Health of a Population in Epidemiological Transition (HOPIET) program, which tracks the health status of south-west Ugandans who manage to enter the middle class after years in poverty.
